Genevieve A. “Jenny” Buenker, 84 of Effingham, passed away Tuesday evening, March 14, 2017 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 20 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. The Council of Catholic Women will pray the rosary at 4:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to the donor’s choice.

Jenny was born December 23, 1932 in Effingham, the daughter of Harry and Gertrude (Koelsch) Knabe. She married Adolph J. Buenker on July 16, 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1996. Jenny was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, as well as the Council of Catholic Women. She was employed by Sears in Effingham for many years.

Jenny is survived by her two daughters, Diana Apke and Suzanne (Christopher) Sehy, both of Effingham; three grandchildren, Katie (Pat) Knepler, DVM of Westminster, CO, Lauren Sehy of Chicago and Curtis Sehy of Lombard; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Kiera Knepler and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Knabe of Tennesee, Betty Buenker of Teutopolis and Mary Knabe of Effingham.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Al and James Knabe and sister, Martha Repking.
