Mary Jean (Kantner) Morell, 88, of Effingham, IL, formerly of Shelbyville and Mattoon, IL, died at 3:32 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 in Heartland Christian Village, Neoga, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 9 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. David Hutton officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Jean was born on June 8, 1928 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Herbert Edwin and Mary Williams Kantner. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1946. Jean worked at Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou, Inc. in Shelbyville before enrolling in Beauty School in Paris, IL. She owned and operated “Jean’s Beauty Salon” in Mattoon, IL for 49 years. She married Louie M. Morell on June 3, 1951. He died on February 18, 1993. Jean retired to Las Vegas, NV in 1997, where she was a volunteer for Mountain View Hospital and an active member of H2U. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, IL.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Madonna Morell (Greg Harper) of Effingham, IL; grandson, Brett Morell of Taylorville, IL; great granddaughters, Brittney Morell of Godfrey, IL and Brooke Morell of Brighton, IL; brother, George H. Kantner of La Habra, CA; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louie M. Morell; son, Michael M. Morell in 1993; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Emily Kantner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maurine and Jim Lieb, Carolyn and Ernie Hardsaw, and Rita and Jerry Clark; and sister-in-law, Betty Kantner.
