Jerry Loren Mitchell, 79, of Louisville died at 3:28am Sunday, March 5, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, March 9 at J.W. Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. Visitation will be from 10-11am Thursday. Interment in the mausoleum at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Memorials to Full Armor Christian Academy of Pine Haven Children's Ranch in Montana.

Jerry was born December 17, 1937, in Clay County, IL, the son of the late Loren "Jack" Mitchell and the late Olive (Schroeder) Mitchell. He was a retired prison guard and was employed by the juvenile detention center in Harrisburg, IL. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a past member of the Louisville American Legion, VFW, and a past member of the Clay County Regulators.

He leaves to mourn his passing, sisters, Jeane (Edwin) Robertson of Minooka, IL, Mary Ann (Robert) Stortzum of Louisville, Nancy (Lou) Kincaid of Holland, MI; granddaughter, Anissa MItchell of Flora; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Michael Mitchell.
