Helen Louise Lash, 97, of Decatur, formerly of St. Elmo, died at 8:40am Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 21 at 1:00pm at Kull Funeral Home in St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm Tuesday. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the choice of the donor.

Helen was born into the Christian family of Lawrence and Anna Washburn Thrasher the oldest of 4 siblings. She began her long life on October 17, 1919 at home in St. Elmo, Illinois. She graduated from St. Elmo High School with the Class of 1937. Helen then continued her education by attending and graduating from Sparks Business School in Shelbyville, Illinois in 1938. She married Harold Merle Lash on February 25, 1938 in St. Charles, Missouri. Harold preceded her in death on July 16, 1990. Helen assisted her husband with farming and raising a son and daughter. She had moved to Decatur after the death of her husband to be near her daughter. She was a member of the Methodist Church beginning in 1931, and maintained her membership with the Forsyth Methodist Church where she was an active member until her death.

She is survived by 1-Son: Merle Eugene (wife, Lois) Lash of Springfield, Illinois; 3—Grandchildren: Mark (wife, Tammy) Lash, Max (wife, Sherry) Lash and Marcia (husband, Steve) Gehle; 1-Daughter: Betty Louise (husband, Galen) Underwood of Warrensburg, Illinois; 2- Grandchildren: Dwayne (wife, Angel) Underwood and Beth (husband, Tom) Williams; 1-Brother: Charles Leroy (wife, Kay) Thrasher of Wichita, Kansas; 2-Sisters: Mrs. Jennie Lucille Wells of Brownstown, Illinois and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth LeDoux of Denver, Colorado; 14 Great Grandchildren; 15 Great-Great Grandchildren; and several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her: Parents; Husband; Infant Great-Great Grandchildren Twins: Hayden and Alexa Doan; 2-Brothers-in-law: Howard Wells & David LeDoux.
