Leslie “Glenn” Boomgarden, 86, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Mason Union Cemetery in Mason, IL with military rites. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Glenn to the donor’s choice.

Glenn was born on February 3, 1930, in Fayette County, IL, the son of Leslie Leroy and Edna C. (Shaw) Boomgarden. He married Barbara Parks on February 1, 1953, and she survives. Glenn served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged. He was an entrepreneur having two businesses, one in landscaping and the other was Square Deal Trucking for 20 years. He enjoyed traveling in the RV for family vacations, fishing, and Friday nights at the Opry in Edgewood. He enjoyed old-time country, especially listening to Willie’s Roadhouse on the radio. Glenn was outgoing and friendly. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Boomgarden of Effingham; children, Leslie (Pam) Boomgarden of Marengo, Dianne (Bill) Guth of Marengo, Brenda (Kevin) Umphress of Lindenhurst, Michael (Donna) Boomgarden of Hoffman Estates, Glenda “Katie” (Mark Austin) Meier of Beecher City; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Phyllis) Boomgarden of East Peoria; sister, Ann (Matthew) Heinrich of East Peoria; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elbert Lee Boomgarden; and step-father, Edgar Long.
