Donald Lee Long, 90, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:19 PM - Thursday, January 26, 2017, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Tuesday, January 31 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00 - 7:00 PM – Monday at the church and ½ hour before mass. In loving memory of Donald, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Donald was born on June 24, 1926, in Olney, Illinois, the son of Leo J. and Helena (Ritz) Long. He married Ladora Frichtl on October 26, 1948, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois. Donald was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #1704 and Jasper County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races.

Donald is survived by: Wife of 68 years – Ladora Long of Newton, Illinois; Children – Douglas (Jan) Long of Newton, Illinois, Lois Emmerich of Dieterich, Illinois, Evelyn (Don) Zuber of Stringtown, Illinois, and Keith (Karen) Long of Newton, Illinois; Grandchildren – Beth (Eric) Eves, Debbie (Mike) Whitacre, Mark Long, Steve (Valerie) Long, Michael Long (special friend Jessica Johnson), Paul (Beth) Emmerich, Kari (Ian) Andersen, Stacy Zuber, Sarah Zuber, Jennifer Zuber (special friend Drew Beckman), Kurt (Danyiel) Long and Kristopher (Nicole) Long; 9 Great Grandchildren; and Special Pet - Niki.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his father and mother-in-law Edgar and Freda Frichtl.
