Martha P. Wente (88) of Teutopolis and Effingham

Martha P. Wente, 88, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 16 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the church, with a 4:30 p.m. ladies rosary and a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service. Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
Martha was born September 26, 1928 in Dieterich, the daughter of Aloysius and Clara (Cremer) Hartke. She married Richard O. Wente on February 4, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1993. Martha was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed embroidering and making quilts for her family and friends.
Martha is survived by her nine children, Michael (Joyce) of Teutopolis, Victoria (David) Draves of Dieterich, Nicholas (Joyce) of Teutopolis, Christopher of Shumway, Patrick (Sharon) of Teutopolis, Gloria (Dale) Pruemer of Dieterich, Monica (John) Emmerich of Wheeler, Valentine Wente of Teutopolis and Matthew of Teutopolis; two sisters, Sr. Berniece Hartke S.S.N.D. of St. Louis, MO and Kay Hardiek of Dieterich; three sisters-in-law, Carol Jean Vahling, Glenda Hartke and Pauletta Wente; thirty-four grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Henry, Fr. Simon O.F.M., Richard, Herman and Jerome; two sisters, Sr. Claritus Hartke S.S.N.D. and Sr. Lois Hartke S.S.N.D.
