Leslie A. Black (90) of Mt. Zion

Leslie A. Black, 90, of Mt. Zion passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

A Celebration of Leslie’s Life will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery near Cowden. Memorial contributions may be sent to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, 57 Country Place, Springfield IL 62703 or to HonorFlight.ORG.

Born December 23, 1926 in Cowden, he was the son of Arthur and Onia Mae (Wallace) Black. On September 2, 1951, he and Betty Lutz were united in marriage in Decatur. Leslie was a Veteran of WWII, member of Stephen Decatur Lodge #979 and a member of Local 288 Painters Union. He retired as superintendent of Grohne Company in Decatur. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Mt. Zion, three children Stanley A. Black of Decatur, Ronda J. (Stephen) Smith of Decatur, and Daniel O. (Kristen) Black of Trophy Club, TX, five grandchildren Kelli (Craig) Runyon of Decatur, Stefanie (Matthew) Hopkins of Decatur, Lindsey Black of Grapevine, TX, Ryan Black of Ft. Collins, CO, and Thaddeus Smith of Decatur, one great-grandchild Amelia Hopkins, three sisters Lillie Gregg, Joanna Petty and LaVerne Kline, one brother Delbert (Challys) Black, sister-in-law Iva Hogan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three half-brothers, two half-sisters, siblings Nadean, Thomas, Leah and George.

Leslie will be sorely missed by all who knew him. When he wasn’t with his family, he could be found on his boat. Like he always said, “I’d rather be fishing!” Leslie’s family invites friends and family to share a story or light a candle in his honor by clicking here.
