Donald “Don” G. Stillwell, 86, of Effingham, Illinois, died at 11:37 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

According to Don’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial to the American Cancer Society or the donor’s charity of choice can be made. Donald Gene Stillwell was born October 16, 1930 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Jewett R. and Miriam V. (Powell) Stillwell. Don grew up and attended school in southern and central Missouri before enlisting in the military. Don was extremely proud of his lengthy military career and retired from service as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army. Don served several tours in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Don enjoyed a second retirement after working many years at World Color Press. For those that knew Don, all said the same thing, “that man had a joke for every occasion.”

He is survived by his sons, Robert of Chino Hills, CA, Douglas of Tomah, WI, and Jay of Oviedo, FL; daughters, Brenda K. Stillwell of Albuquerque, NM, Lanicia Laubinger of Union, MO, and Tecla Winfrey of Indianapolis, IN; brother, David Stillwell of Gilbertsville, KY; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, James David Stillwell; and brother, James Alonzo Stillwell.
