Bennie Lyle Sowers, 85, of Toledo, Illinois passed away at 11:58 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Cumberland Rehab & Nursing Center in Greenup, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 8 at the Toledo Christian Church, 501 S Maryland St, Toledo, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening at the church. Burial will be in the Toledo Cemetery. Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is assisting the family. Bennie was born on March 26, 1931 in Jewett, Illinois, the son of Ben and Ruth (Marrs) Sowers. He married Phyllis Rominger on August 14, 1955. She is surviving along with their children, Barbara (Steve) Shirley of Toledo, Gary (Susan) Sowers of Toledo, Rick (Cindy) Sowers of Toledo, Jennifer (Mike) Phillips of Toledo and Tom (Guyla) Sowers of Lincoln, IL; sister Lois (Ronnie) Collins of Toledo; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Shirley Lynn; siblings Millard Sowers, Emil Sowers, Madonna McKinley, Frankie Aleshire, Johnie Sowers, Ray Sowers and Jim Sowers.
Bennie worked as a Farmer and a Union Carpenter.
