Madonna E. Golden, 90, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, October 27th, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with the Rev. David McConnell officiating. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in memory of Madonna to Crossroads Cancer Center, 905 Medical Park Drive, Effingham, IL. Madonna was born on April 16, 1922, in Effingham County, the daughter of Virgil and Stella (Miller) Ashley. She married James C. Golden on July 8, 1961, and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2005.

Madonna was a member of First Christian Church in Effingham. She worked at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham as a nursing assistant for 10 years. She was a hard working mother. She was a devoted, loving wife to her husband, James, when she cared for him in his later years while he fought Parkinson’s Disease. She enjoyed country music. 

Madonna is survived by her children, Charles (Michelle) Fairbanks of Canada, James (Lou Ann) Fairbanks of Portland, OR, Harold “Tom” (Rita) Fairbanks of Effingham, Marilyn (Don) Beyers of St. Jacob, Scott “Faber” (Barb) Fairbanks of Effingham, Lisa (Dennis) Quast of Effingham; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Betty) Ashley of St. Joseph; and sisters, Elsie (Robert) Reuter of Effingham and Linda Nees of Edgewood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; brothers, Russell Ashley & Bob Ashley, Gary Ashley, Lendell Ashley; and sisters, Melba Loy, Dorothy Rueter, and Lois Clear.
