LaVerne R. Wetter, 97, of Strasburg, IL, formerly of Aurora, IL, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 in his residence with his family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 22 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. Michael Mohr officiating. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 23 in River Hills Memorial Cemetery, Batavia, IL. Memorials may be given to Lincolnland Hospice or Donor’s Choice.

Mr. Wetter was born on December 24, 1918 in Geneva, IL, the son of Walter and Anna Johnson Wetter. He was a cook in the U. S. Army Air Corps, serving in WW II. Following his time in the service, he worked in the Stevens-Adamson Steel Factory in Aurora, IL for over 35 years. LaVerne was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church. He married Virginia Henderson on June 25, 1949 and she preceded him in death on June 9, 1997. He was a hard worker and his life was centered on his family.

He is survived by his sons, Thomas Wetter (Vicki) of Duluth, MN and Craig Wetter (Laura) of Sarasota, FL; daughter, Barbara Thomas (Roger) of Strasburg, IL; grandchildren, Rebecca Wetter Trevo (Phil) of Virginia, MN, Michael Wetter (An) of Tampa, FL, Nathan Wetter of Urbana, IL, Emily Wetter of Mendota, IL, David Thomas (Laura) of St. Jacob, IL, and Kara Thomas Brown (David) of Stewardson, IL; and great grandchildren, Isaac Wetter, Adelyn Trevo, Olivia and Micah Wetter, Ava, Maleah and Garrett Thomas and one more on the way, and Hunter, Mackenzie, Emmalyn and Waylon Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Michael D. Wetter; and one grandson, Scott Wetter.
