Gerald Lee Sapp, age 83, of Alma, Illinois passed away at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, November 19 at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood, Illinois with military rites. Memorials may go to Salvation Army or donor’s choice.

Gerald was born on March 15, 1933 in Fayette County, Illinois, the son of Charles “Lester” and Myrtle (Hites) Sapp. He was a member of the Farina American Legion Post #411. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, remodeling houses and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his two sons, Gerald Sapp II  (wife Caroline) of Orem, Utah and Tom Sapp of Mesa, Arizona; two daughters, Nancy Bennet (husband Bill) of Newport News, Virginia and Peggy Brockett of Newport News, Virginia; two brothers, Phillip Sapp (wife Roberta) of Effingham, Illinois and Michael Sapp (wife Sarah) of Virginia; six sisters, Delilah Nygaard of Michigan, Jeanine Johnson of Effingham, Illinois, Helen Cox (husband Kenneth) of Farina, Illinois, Glenda Warner of Michigan, Becky Stalling (husband James) of Colorado and Debbie Fender of Vandalia, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Lester” and Myrtle Sapp; brother, Robert Sapp and sister, Rosemary Cox.
