James W. “Bill” Barlage, 90 of Effingham, passed away at 9:53 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to time of service Saturday morning at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Effingham V.F.W., American Legion or D.A.V..

Bill was born May 31, 1926 in Effingham, the son of Harry C. and Gladys (Guthrie) Barlage. He married Anna C. Niebrugge on December 31, 1952 and she preceded him in death in 2013. Bill served with the United States Navy during WWII and was a member of the Effingham V.F.W. Post #1769 and American Legion Post #120. He worked at Petty Printing Company in Effingham for over twenty years.

Bill is survived by his two sons, Dennis and Duane, both of Effingham; daughter, Denise (Gordon) McClure of Newton; brother, Holly “Butch” Barlage and sister, Joan “Sis” (Ralph) Goeckner; five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and two brothers, Carl and Jr.
