Gregory Bruce Stoner, age 50, passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 5, 2016 near his home in St. Elmo.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday, November 10 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo IL. Father Mark Kasperczuk will officiate. Visitation prior to Funeral Mass from 8:30 am until 10:30 am Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Hall. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo, The Stoner Family, the St. Elmo Food Pantry or donor’s choice.

Greg was born on July 27th, 1966 in Charleston, IL, the son of Lester and Elizabeth (Heischmidt) Stoner of Charleston, IL. He was christened, received Holy Communion, and later received his Confirmation at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Charleston, IL. He graduated from Charleston High School, earned his B.S. Degree in Philosophy from Eastern Illinois University and completed his Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Lawyer Assistance from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. During his college years Greg was involved in the Model United Nations, Amnesty International professing his belief in basic human rights. He was a lover of animals including his two dogs and a caretaker for the families’ horses near his home in St. Elmo. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, welding, painting, gardening, and poetry. He also was a lifelong student of the game of chess and enjoyed sharing his comic book collection with his younger brothers. He also put all his faith in God during his daily prayers and his love of his family was unwavering.

He is survived by his parents Lester and Elizabeth (Heischmidt) Stoner of Charleston, IL, his siblings Yvonne Stoner and Melanie Arnott of Mattoon IL, Elizabeth and Deverick Lampley of Huntington Beach, CA, Sarah Keel of Kenosha, WI, Frank and Jodi Stoner of Congerville, IL, Lester and Carrie Stoner II of Calais, VT and Delia and Matthew Jackson of Mowequa, IL. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Ashley Elizabeth Lampley Cooper (Levi Cooper) of Orlando, FL, Andre Lampley of Huntington Beach, CA, Kaitlyn and Madison Keel, and Johnathan Stoner of Kenosha, WI, Shelby, Jacob and Claire Stoner of Congerville, IL, Anna and Jackson Stoner of Calais, VT, Brookelyn and Gauge Jackson of Mowequa, IL.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jesse and Delia Heischmidt of St. Elmo, his paternal grandparents Carter and Sarah Stoner of Charleston IL, and his younger sister Melissa Susan Stoner of Charleston, IL.
