Delbert “Leroy” Miller 87, of Conroe, TX, formerly of Beecher City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Effingham surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham. Burial will be in Beecher City Cemetery in Beecher City, with military rites. Visitation will be from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Saturday followed by 9:45 a.m. Masonic Rites prior to the funeral service at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Leroy to Christ’s Church of Effingham, 2511 S. Veterans Drive, Effingham IL 62401.

Delbert Leroy was born on April 8, 1929, in Beecher City, Fayette County, IL, the son of Clarence “Chub” and Velda (Kline) Miller. He married Mary Lou Pauley on September 16, 1950, in Mattoon, IL and she preceded him in death on December 5, 2012. Leroy graduated 3rd in his class from Beecher City High School in 1948. He was drafted into the Army where he served from 1951 – 1953. He worked for International Harvester and then for Exxon where he retired in 1987 with 34 years of service. He ran a lawn mower repair shop for over 30 years until September 2016. He was a faithful, Christian man and his entire life was spent in ministry to unconditionally helping others. He was devoted to God and his family. When asked by his great granddaughter the best advice he would give to the younger generation, he said “Whatever you do, do it well”.
Leroy is survived by his son, Dennis Miller of Blue Springs, MO; daughters, Karis (Rodney) Riley of Effingham, Tama (Doug Sandel) Goble of Conroe, TX, and Kala (Kenny) Kilgore of Conroe, TX; grandchildren, Dustin (Danielle) Miller, Tosha (Travis Moore) Miller, Heath Riley, Jason Franklin, Larry D. (Cindy) Owens, Erin (John) Mueller, Eric (Megan Seay) Owens, Kristopher Goble, Jake (Crystal) Kilgore, Rusty (Tara) Kilgore and Lindsey Kilgore; great-grandchildren, Mariah and Rhegan Riley, Max and Reece Mueller, Masen Owens, McKenna Jeffress, Katelynn Cody, Kaitlynn “Skeet” Kilgore, Allie Kilgore and Carter Kilgore. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Cornell of Mattoon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou; sister, Darlene Sphar; and brother, Eugene Miller.
