Phoebe Ping, 99, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 7:07 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, at the Willowbrook in Effingham, Illinois.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 21 at the Hunt City Congregational Church in Hunt City with Bro. Phil Boyd and Bro. Randy Nave officiating. Burial will be in the Brockville Cemetery in rural Newton. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Funeral Home in Newton and a half hour before the services at the church.

Phoebe Ann was born October 13, 1917, the daughter of John R. and Sara Alta (Terrell) Baker, on a farm in rural Yale. She married Victor O. Ping December 25, 1935 and they celebrated their 61st anniversary before Victor's death in 1997. Phoebe was a homemaker, Sunday School teacher and deaconness in her church and factory worker. She retired from Caterpillar Tractor in Montgomery in 1974 when she and Victor moved back to Jasper County from Aurora. She enjoyed taking care of her garden, doing crafts of all kinds, solving puzzles, playing cards with her grandchildren and bowling on a league. She was a member of the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church in Hunt City.
 
Phoebe is survived by her children, Margaret Manning of rural Newton, Kenneth (wife Barbara) Ping of Tamaroa, Janet (husband Quincy) Vanderhoof of Newton and Myrna Jackson of rural Newton; 18 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
 
Phoebe was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jerry Ping; two sons-in-law. Ray Manning and Jimmy Jackson; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Ping and Sharon Ping; granddaughter, Debra Manning, several great-grandchildren and 11 siblings.
