Arlon E. Wendling, 88, of Effingham, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, with the Rev. Earl Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Arlon to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham or Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham.

Arlon was born on March 9, 1928, in Moccasin Township Altamont, IL, the son of Elmer and Julia (Oldenburg) Wendling. Arlon married Frances Baumann in 1948. They later divorced. He married Beta Chrisman in 1970. Arlon was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Arlon worked for several years in the auto service industry and later he and Betty operated the Lake Club (32 Club) in Effingham. Arlon was active in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles serving as state president at one time.

Arlon is survived by his son, Roy (Pat) Wendling of Algonquin, IL; granddaughters, Teri  (Casey) Watson  of Crystal Lake, IL and Jana (Dan) Mendro of Cary, IL; stepson, Richard (Rachelle) Chrisman; step-granddaughter, Cathy; step-grandson, Bobbie Chrisman; step-daughter, Nancy (Dennis) Kreke of Effingham; step-grandson, Chris (Donna) Kreke of Effngham; sister, Bernice LaBerta of Altamont; and brother, Don Wendling of Altamont; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beta; brother-in-law, Leonard LaBerta; and sister-in-law, Ruby Wendling.
