Robert E. “Bob” Hockman, 86, of Quincy and formerly of Effingham, Illinois, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 10:32 in his home.

Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2pm Monday, October 10 at First Church of God on South Banker in Effingham with a service to follow at 2pm at the church. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Memorials may be made to First Church of God in Effingham or Calvary Baptist Church of Quincy.

Bob was born July 8, 1930 in Edgewood, Illinois, the son of Albert and Tressa Fern Cohea Hockman. On November 17, 1951 he married Marilyn G.Jones in Louisville, IL. She survives and they would have celebrated their 65th year of marriage this November. Bob was a graduate of Effingham High School. He worked for Blankenship Auto Parts for several years and retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of employment. After retirement he was employed part time at Stevens Hardware in Effingham. After moving to Quincy he was employed part time at Merkel’s Hardware, until closing, and Red Wing Shoe Store. He spent over 50 years working in church work at First Church of God in Effingham. He was active, teaching and serving where needed. After moving to Quincy he and Marilyn worshipped at the Crossing and Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Marilyn are; a son, Brad (Tammy) Hockman of Quincy; a daughter, Connie (Milt) Kelly of Fisher, IL; five grandsons, Nathan Kelly of Knoxville, TN, Jon Kelly of Fisher, IL, Benjamin Kelly of Mahomet, IL, Taylor Hockman, and Bryar Hockman both of Quincy; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Carter of Gassville, AR, and Helen Owens of Newton, IL.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Douglas Hockman, a sister Lela Fawkes, three half sisters and one half-brother.
