Bessie N. Dulgar, 94, of Newton, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Wednesday, October 5 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Newton, Illinois, with Rev. Clark Blade and Rev. Pam Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. There will also be visitation starting at 10am Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mayo Clinic Foundation for Medical Education Research.

Bessie was born on September 27, 1922, in Newton, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd and Bacy (Johnson) Clark. She married Robert Dulgar on May 11, 1941, in Newton, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1974. Bessie and her husband owned and operated the family business, Dulgar Seed House in Newton and the family farms. Bessie was a lifelong resident of Newton, and served on numerous civic, religious and educational/literacy organizations. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church in Newton, Methodist Conference Lay Speaker and had served on the Eastern Illinois Community College Board of Trustees. She will be remembered as a champion for education, and her compassion for the needy.

Bessie is survived by: Children – Karen (George) Trumbull of Burr Ridge, Illinois and Randall Dulgar of Newton, Illinois; Grandchildren – Susan Barbee, Robert Dulgar, Russell Dulgar, Sara Correll, Tom Kloster, Judy Akre, Michelle Oare, Beth Murphy and Heather Corcoran; 15 Great Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ruth Blade and Helen Lawler, and a grandson William Kloster.
