Irene Ellen (White) Bowers (85) of Effingham

Irene Ellen (White) Bowers, 85, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away at 9:55 AM – Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at her home.

Funeral services celebrating Ellen’s life will be held at 11:00 AM – Saturday, October 1 at the Meyer Funeral Home – Bishop Chapel in Greenup, Illinois, with Don Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Irene Ellen was born on September 7, 1931, in Rose Hill, Illinois, the daughter of Murvin and Rena (Brunner) White. She married Carl Roger Bowers on September 4, 1949, and he preceded her in death on February 26, 2013. Ellen had worked for REA, Midland States Bank and later at the St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital gift shop. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. She loved her children, grandchildren and taking care of babies. She is in Heaven now, rocking babies.

Ellen is survived by: Children – Roger D. (Cheryle) Bowers of Sedalia, Missouri and Kathy L. (George) Spallinger of Findlay, Illinois; Grandchildren – Roger D. (Courtney) Bowers, Jr, Michael (Heidi) Simons, Lori Burnett, Pam Bowers, Pascha (Brian) Shire, George (Kendra) Spallinger, Jr, Sara Spallinger, Danny (Deanna) Spallinger; Aaron (Jamie) Spallinger and Adam Lemarr; 26 Great Grandchildren; Sister – Lucille Noblitt and Brother – Chalie White.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Oral White, Glenn Haggard and Harry Haggard.
