Flossie Geneva (Foltz) Goebel, 103, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:35 PM – Monday, September 12, 2016, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Flossie’s life will be held at 10:00 AM – Saturday, September 17 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Pastor Michael Seidenstricker officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service at the funeral home.

Flossie Geneva was born on March 20, 1913, in Wade Township, Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of George W. and Flora Pearl (Kibler) Foltz. She married Leonard Goebel on Decemeber 25, 1935, and preceded her in death on April 24, 1991. Flossie worked at the Newton Box Factory and the Newton Broom Factory in her youger years. In the mid 1950’s, Flossie and Leonard moved to Northern Illinois to be tenant farmers. In 1978, they moved into their first home in Newton, Illinois. After retirement, Flossie and Leonard enjoyed traveling with her sister Gladys Tabb and her husband John to historical sites around the country. The four of them also liked playing the card game, 7-Up. Flossie was a hard-working, no-nonsense and practical woman who enjoyed gardening, canning, preserving, sewing, and quilting.
Flossie is survived by her grandsons Mark Goebel of Elizabeth, Colorado and Gregg Goebel of Tucson, Arizona and nieces.
Flossie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son Delane, her daughter Connie, and her sister Gladys Tabb.
