Judith A. “Judy” Newberry, 66, of Teutopolis, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 12 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, IL. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Judy to the donor’s choice.

Judy was born on September 5, 1950 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Matilda (Althoff) Schmidt. She married Lloyd L. Newberry on March 13, 1976 in Effingham, and he survives. Judy was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the C.C.W. Judy spent her working life caring for others as a dedicated L.P.N. Her nursing career first started at St. Anthony Hospital where she was employed for nine years, then for Dr. William Rezabeck for 28 years, and currently for Dr. John Killough. She always greeted everyone with her warm and friendly smile. She was an avid bowler and belonged to the EWB 600 Club and the USBC Association. Judy enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and volunteering. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and her family’s children.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of forty years, Lloyd L. Newberry of Teutopolis; daughter, Sara (Micheal) Newberry-Clavenna of Maplewood, MO; 2 grandchildren, Julian Micheal Clavenna, who affectionately called his grandma, Neenee, and one baby on the way; stepson, Jim Newberry of Effingham; stepdaughter, Vicki (Jeff) Kirk of Herrick; step-grandchildren, Ashley Cervi, Ian Kirk, Wade Newberry, Isabelle Clavenna, Misti Kirk, and Savannah Kirk; step-great-granddaughter, Evelyn Cervi; mother, Matilda Schmidt of Effingham; sisters, Jean (Don) Klingler of Newton and Joyce (Mark) Roedl of Effingham; sister-in-law, Clara Mae Schmidt of Dieterich; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Schmidt; brother, Don Schmidt; nephew, Bradley Schmidt; paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Catherine Schmidt; maternal grandparents, William and Cecelia Althoff.
