Richard D. “Dick” Syfert, 87, formerly of Beecher City, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Harmony Center in Mattoon with his wife Elsie by his side.

Visitation will be 5p.m. until 8p.m. Wednesday, August 31 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City. Funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Warner officiating. Burial will be at the Hubbartt Cemetery, Beecher City. Donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Born September 5, 1928, in Shelby County, he was the son of George and Bertha (Sparks) Syfert. Dick was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. On August 14, 1954 he and Elsie Mae Taylor were united in marriage. For 20 years Dick worked for the Oliver Corporation and retired from Fedders in 1989. He also farmed north of Beecher City for many years. He enjoyed gardening, playing pinochle, mushroom hunting and camping. He and his wife were hosts at the Hidden Springs campground. They enjoyed traveling out West and staying in Donna, TX.

Surviving are his wife of Mattoon; children George (Sherrie) Syfert of Southport N.C., Richard D. Jr. (Kathleen) Syfert of Sigel, Diana L. (Mark) Hollie of Ramer, TN, Debra (Kevin) Turnquist of Daytona Beach, FL; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister Margaret Devore and three brothers Charles, Delbert and James.
