Herbert Dale Marshall, 74, of Willow Hill, Illinois died Sunday, August 28, 2016 at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 2 at Central Christian Church in Newton with Bro. Mike Knepper officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Spetember 1 in the church. Burial will be in the Chapel Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorial gifts may be made to the Central Christian Church or the HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois. Crain Funeral Home in Newton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Herbert was born on June 24, 1942 in Jasper County, Illinois the son of David and Edna (Kingery) Marshall. On May 25, 1962, Herbert married Carole Staley. To this union were born three children Randall, Sheryl, and Timothy. In early years, Herbert farmed and raised hogs. In addition to farming, he worked as a carpenter, a welder, a security guard and truck driver. He was a member of the Central Christian Church. Herbert liked hunting, trapping, and fly fishing. He enjoyed nature and being outside watching birds and other wildlife. His most precious time was spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Herbert will be loved and remembered by his wife of fifty-four years Carole Marshall of Willow Hill; children Sheryl (Larry) Brinson of Willow Hill and Tim (Violet) Marshall of Effingham; grandchildren Nicole (Cody) Allen of Evansville, Kevin (Chrissy) Marshall of Oblong, Brooke (Evan) Hoke of Willow Hill, Jessica Marshall of Newton, Stephanie Brinson of Willow Hill, Terra Gerald and finance Shane Sparks of Elfrida, AZ, Thomas Gerald of Elfrida, AZ, Brandon Duncan of Effingham; great-grandchildren Kolbe, Caleb, and Keigan Marshall of Oblong, Lucas and Jackson Allen of Evansville, and Waylen Hoke of Willow Hill; brothers Delane ( Marlene) Marshall of Olney and Howard (Brenda) Marshall of Salem; sister Donna Smallwood of Newton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ron and Joan Mulvey of Newton and brother-in-law Ralph Miller of Newton; and  several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Randall Eugene Marshall, parents David and Edna Marshall, brother David Marshall, sister Rosalie Miller and father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Marge Staley.
