Paul Courson, Jr., 87, of Dieterich died at 5:30am Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, August 28 at the Latona Church of Christ in Latona with Nate Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery in Dieterich. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich.

Paul was born on August 10, 1929 in Champaign, Illinois the son of Paul Courson, Senior and Zettie (Fulfer) Courson. He married Jennie Lou McCormick on June 20, 1969 and she preceded him in death on January 14, 2016. Paul worked hard all of his life, first working for the rail road followed by Fedders and World Color Press. Upon retirement from World Color Press he worked for the Village of Dieterich. Through the years Paul put his carpentry and wood working skills to use roofing houses. He would drive a tractor at any given chance and loved taking care of the family animals, especially “Sassy” their beloved family dog. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and horseback riding. Paul and Jennie loved to attend fairs and rodeos and they could often be found together on the dance floor.

Paul is survived by: Children – Terry (Marsha) Courson of Dieterich, Illinois; Vernon Courson of Altus, Oklahoma; Ronald Courson of Louisville, Illinois; Tim (Kim) Courson of Dieterich, Illinois and Brenda Durham of Chillicothe, Illinois...Step Children- Penny (Mike) McCollum of Effingham, Illinois; Chris Orsborn (Larry Frost) of Dieterich, Illinois; Bill (Peg) Radloff of Dieterich, Illinois; Gynell (Fred) Stevens of Effingham, Illinois and Jennie Jo (Larry) Thompson of Lerna, Illinois...10 Grandchildren...10 Step Grandchildren...12 Great Grandchildren...and 10 Step Great Grandchildren with 2 more on the way. 2 Nieces and 2 Nephews also survive.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a son Tom Paul Courson who passed in 1971 and a sister Louise Headlee and brother-in-law Homer Lee Headlee.
