Burl Philip Green, 93, of Tuscola died at 8:35am Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Riverview Assisted Living, East Peoria, Illinois.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home of Kinmundy, where the family will receive friends from 10:30 am to 12:00 Noon Saturday, August 27. A celebration of life will be held at the funeral home following the visitation at 12:00 Noon Saturday. Masonic rites will be held just before at 11:45 am. Interment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy. Memorials may be made to the Kinmundy/Alma EMT's and will be received at the funeral home.

Burl was born January 1, 1923 in Fayette County, IL, the son of the late William Lewis Green and the late Grace Dexter (Feather) Green. He married Virginia Ann Keen on December 9, 1946 in Salem, IL. He graduated from Kinmundy High School in 1942. After he married Virginia, they spent two years residing in Chenoa, IL then moved back to Kinmundy until 1952. At that time they moved to Tuscola and he worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 3 years. He also worked for U.S.I. for 30 years as a crane operator before retiring in 1987. He was a member of Local 515 of the International Union of Operating Engineers for 30 years where he served as their financial secretary for 23 years. He joined the Masonic Lodge in Kinmundy in February 1947 and transferred his membership to the Tuscola Lodge #332 in 1955. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 69 years and was a Master three different years. Other activities he enjoyed was being on the Tuscola Fire Department for 30 years, umpiring high school and little league baseball games for 10 years, loved to fish, boat and camp at East Fork Campground at Lake Olney, a member of the Champaign Bass Club, and watching the St Louis Cardinals.
 
Burl was survived by wife Virginia Green of Tuscola; daughters, Marsha Lynn Green (Rick) Burdette of Peoria, IL; Sharon Kay Green (Gary) Schenke of Plano, TX; sister, Louise Cheatum of Kinmundy; grandchildren, Michelle Kathryn Schenke (Tim) Glaser of Roanoke, TX, Jonathan Michael (Stephanie Welch) Schenke of Melissa, TX, Philip George (Amanda) Burdette of Fairplay, CO.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lyle Green and Carl Green; brothers-in-law, Elwyn Cheatum and Emmett Garrett; sister, Laura Garrett; sisters-in-law, Frances Green and Marie Green.
