Clifford H. "Cliff" Grunloh (90) of Effingham

Clifford H. Grunloh, 90 of Effingham died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 2 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony Parish Center with a parish wake service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Schools or Catholic Charities.

Cliff was born January 25, 1926 in Green Creek, the son of George and Elisabeth (Dust) Grunloh. He married Marian Steger on May 13, 1950 in Island Grove. Marian preceded him in death on November 16th, 2012. Cliff graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1944. He was a veteran of World War II in which he served in Japan. After his return he began his career as an innovative builder and grew as a developer and businessman. He founded Grunloh Construction and developed Park Hills Golf Course and Subdivision and Mini Hills Subdivision. He was the driving force of many building projects in Central Illinois. He was one of the pioneers in developing properties on Lake Sara. Cliff was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, Blues Hockey, Rams Football and U of I Basketball. He was a musician, a pilot, a hunter, a gardener, a winemaker and enjoyed talking Platt Dutsch (Low German) to anyone who would listen. He was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham Nights of Columbus and Effingham VFW. 

Cliff's proudest achievement was his 62 year-long marriage to Marian and raising their 9 children which all survive including, Ted Grunloh of Effingham, Richard Grunloh of Effingham, Debby (Joe) Rickelman of Worth, Bill (Diana) Grunloh of Springfield, Sandy (Steve) Brown of Mahomet, Tom (Autumn) Grunloh of Green Creek, Lynn (Bruce) Lustig of Effingham, Ed (Lori) Grunloh of Effingham and Amy (Scott) Jolliff of Atlanta, GA.  They had 22 grandchildren that survive including Jeremy Grunloh, Nicole (David) Hauschild, Paul Rickelman, Natalie Mask, Jackie (Bryan) Dunne, Erin (John) Dudley, Ashley (Ross) Bierman, Eric (Jennifer) Brown, Bailey (Neil) Barns, Dani Grunloh, Allie Grunloh, Lucas Brown, Anna (Jeremy) Kyle, Andrew Grunloh, Alex Lustig, Patrick Grunloh, Lena Grunloh, Nick Grunloh, Adam Joliff, Noah Joliff, Malli Grunloh and Logan Grunloh. They had eleven great-grandchildren Lauren Mask, Ava Mask, Lucy Bierman, Rusch Rickelman, Harper Dunne, Elle Bierman, Gianna Kyle, Jack Hauschild, Leo Bierman, Marty Dudley, Miller Dunne and baby Barns due next week.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents and all 11 siblings including 6 brothers Richard, Louis, Joe, Jerry, Harold and Don Grunloh and 5 sisters Louise Schoening, Olive Fuelle, Lucille Thoele, Hilda Nolan and Jeane Kinkelaar.
