John Josiah Field age 88 of Newton passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at the First Baptist Church in Newton. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois. Memorial gifts in memory of John may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund.

John was born on January 2, 1928 in Jasper County, Illinois the son of Dorsa and Edna (Matlock) Field. On November 14, 1959, John married Joan C. Evans at the Newton Christian Church. She preceded him in death on April 18, 1990. John retired from of the City of Newton Water Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton. John was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Enjoying to tease and to play jokes, he loved to tell family and friends, “You’re my favorite”. Throughout his life and most especially during his illness, John found his strength in his faith in Jesus Christ. He reminded his family often that “Jesus knows.”

John will be loved and remembered by his children Bill Field of Ste. Marie, IL; Brenda Schmidt Field of Newton, Becky Catt, husband Kevin of Ste. Marie, IL, and Bridgett Field, finance Todd Davis; grandchildren, Bobby Field, James Field, Johnathan Field, Jacob Field, Chance Field, Lacy Spour, husband Jonathon, Bobby Parker, fiance Erika Acero, Mason Parker, girlfriend Kimmy Pantry, Casey Catt, wife Ashley, Clayton Catt, Alec St. Pierre, and Kitch St. Pierre; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife Joan, and brothers Garnet, Warren, and Oris Field, and sisters Enid Woods, Arca Fear, Nada Clark, and Rosemary Kibler, and close friend Steve “Steve-o” Auteberry preceded him in death.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Michelle Fulton, Dr. Saliba, and Dr. Nayak for the loving, compassionate care that they each extended to John.
