Joanne A. Sawin (nee Rudolph), 83, of Effingham, IL, passed on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 5 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham, with Minister Eric Splechter officiating. Family and friends may gather from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the cemetery prior to services. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Joanne was born on August 9, 1932, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Arthur C. and Agnes F. (Irwin) Rudolph. She married William Sawin on September 7, 1951, in Chicago, IL, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2006. Joanne was an active and dedicated member of the Effingham VFW Auxiliary Post 1769. She was also a die hard Chicago Cubs fan.
Joanne is survived by her children, Joanne (husband, David) Oldfield of Lake Forest, CA, Pam Higgs of Effingham, Ronald (wife, Betsy) of New Lenox, IL; special family friend, Alan G. Koester of Effingham; grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) Matuz, James (Marissa) Esquivel, Stephanie (Brenn) Banaszynski, Matthew Koester, Michael Koester, Emily Sawin and Ellen Sawin; great-grandchildren, Noah and Owen Matuz and Jace Banaszynski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; and great-grandchildren, Mia, Isabel, Owen, Marley and David Matuz.
