Glenn Alwardt (63) of rural St. Elmo

Glenn A. Alwardt, 63, of St. Elmo, died at 3:28 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Clayton Vail officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and for one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the family for medical expenses, ALIS, or to the donor’s choice.

Glenn Arthur Alwardt was born in Vandalia on Thursday, July 31, 1952 to Arthur and Lydia (Kroening) Alwardt. He married Roxie E. Riley on May 15, 1976 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Altamont. He was a lifelong farmer beginning his working career off the farm at Young’s Grocery Store (S&W Supermarket), Altamont and was a truck driver. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church having been the head elder for several years. He was a toy tractor collector and member of the National Trail Toy Club. He served on the ALIS School Board and was member of the Lutheran Bowling League. His love of red was reflected in his love of baseball, a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and his beloved IH tractors.
He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Roxie Alwardt of St. Elmo; son, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Alwardt of Altamont; daughter, Daphne (Steve) Flood of Altamont; sister, Darlene Dial of Trenton, FL; 3 grandchildren, Alyson Alwardt, Henry Alwardt and Garrett Flood; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ralph and Hazel Riley of Cowden; and close family friend, Travis (Kelly) Stone of Altamont and their children, Wyatt Stone and Shelbi Stone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Philip Alwardt in infancy and brother-in-law, Myron Dial.
