Richard Mazanek, 81, of Alma, IL died Sunday, June 5, 2016 at his home in the loving care of his family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 8 at the Alma Christian Church with Randy VanAusdall officiating. Burial will follow in the Alma Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem and from 9:00 AM until the service hour at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the HSHS St. Anthony's Hospice or to the Alma Christian Church and will be received by the funeral home.
Born December 16, 1934 in Alma, he was the son of John and Essie (Day) Mazanek who preceded him in death. The owner of Mazanek Orchard and Farm, Richard was a third generation farmer and fruit grower, especially fond of fruit farming. He enjoyed seeing his customers, which he considered his friends return each year looking forward to whatever fruit happened to be in season. He had graduated Salem Community High School in 1952, and Ranken Trade School in 1954. He was a member of Alma Christian Church. He especially loved his family, his farm and being a fruit grower.
He married Charlotte Wielage September 29, 1956 in Quincy, and she survives in Alma. Other survivors include his children Bradley Richard Mazanek and wife Lisa of Alma, Susan Bull and husband Len of Belleville and Christine Rohner and fiancé Bill Rogers of Sarasota, FL. Also, his grandchildren, Jennifer Fairchild and husband Christopher of Baton Rouge, LA; Ryan Bull and wife Jessica of Cameron, NC; Hannah Lukowski and husband Jonathon of Edwardsville; Reid Mazanek and fiancé Jen Ruthe of O'Fallon; Lindsay Mazanek and Kyle Mazanek both of Alma; Eric Rohner of Denver, CO; and Holly Rohner of Sarasota, FL; Great Grandchildren include Alexis, Lauren, Emily and Karis Fairchild of Baton Rouge, LA; and Lilly and Lori Bull of Cameron, NC; his niece, Ann Hurley Johnson and husband Bill of Chattanooga, TN, along with nephews, Mark Mazanek and wife Gay of Alma, John Hurley and Steve Johnson and wife Cheryl all of Atlanta, GA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother John Ross Mazanek, and sisters Edith Johnson and Frances Hurley.
