Dorothy Lee (Cowger) Elmore, 87, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 5:49 PM – Friday, May 27, 2016, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM – Wednesday, June 1 at the Latona Church of Christ in Latona, Illinois, with Nate Hagen and Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery in Latona, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Latona Church of Christ.

Dorothy was born on October 4, 1928, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Laurence and Olga (Beckwith) Cowger. She married Marvin Elmore on April 4, 1948, at Newton Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, and he survives. Dorothy was a school teacher for one year, before getting married. After she and Marvin were married, she became a homemaker, mother and helped Marvin farm and care for their farm. Dorothy was a faithful and devoted member of the Latona Church of Christ, where she was always willing to lend a hand, either by teaching Sunday school, playing the piano, leading songs or assisting with church dinners. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, sewing and being outdoors. She loved her family and enjoyed every moment spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by: husband of 68 years, Marvin Elmore of Wheeler, Illinois...Children – Lee (Donna) Elmore of Newton, Illinois and Susie (Clint) Williams of Newton, Illinois...Grandchildren – Kim (Jesse) Yager of Newton, Illinois; Clayton Williams of Newton, Illinois and Jamee (Doug) Line of Newton, Illinois...Great Grandchildren – Taylor Line, Hayden Shamhart-Williams, Brayden Line, Haylee Line, Hunter Yager and a great grandchild due in the fall...Brothers – Rondle (Mabel) Cowger of Ingraham, Illinois and James (Anne) Cowger of Nashville, Tennessee.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
