Samuel Perry Mitchell, age 81, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016, at his home in Flora.
A funeral service for Perry Mitchell will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in Powers Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be given to HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Perry was born July 16, 1934, in Iola, the son of Samuel Lee and Beulah L. (Haley) Mitchell. He was a mechanic and his employment during the years included the oil fields, a milk delivery route, and Flora Wal-Mart. Perry enjoyed motorcycle riding, gardening by using a hand spade, fishing, and drinking coffee at McDonald’s, Burger King, and Clay County Hospital.
He is survived by a son: Mark Wayne Mitchell (Tabbatha) of Vance, MS; a daughter: April Renee Mercer (John) of Effingham; his significant other: Marion Eastin of Flora; 4 grandchildren: Brandilee (Jason) Bullard, Chelsea Mercer, Alicia Mercer, and Gabriellle Mitchell; 8 great-grandchildren; and his little pal “Max”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter: Arial Channing Bliss Rogers, a brother: Finley Bates, and a sister: Minnie.
