Ruth Parks (89) of Effingham

Ruth B. Parks, 89, of Effingham, formerly of Altamont and California, died at 5:50 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at her home.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 23 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with burial to follow at Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to HSHS Homecare or Hospice (www.hshshospice.org).

Ruth was born on Wednesday, January 26, 1927 in Olney, IL to Daniel and Daisy (Bishop) Ashbaugh. She married Harry Parks on April 26, 1947. In addition to being a wife and mother she had worked for and retired from K-Mart.

She is survived by her: husband of over 69 years, Harry of Livingston, CA; sons, Clayton of Elburn, Dennis (friend Jackie) Parks of Effingham, Mark (Angela) Parks of Livingston, CA, Lloyd (Jill) Parks of St. Charles and Harvey (Laura) Parks of South Elgin; daughters; Sandra (Phil) Schilber of Livingston, CA and Sharon (Clinton) Herdegen of Hoffman Estates; brother, Jack Ashbaugh of Effingham; sister, Maybelle Barnes of St. Elmo; 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; sons, Stephen and Robert Parks; brother, Donald Ashbaugh; sisters, Marbelle Haslett and Twilla Eirhart.

The family would like to thank her nieces and nephews for their visits and concerns and the nursing staff of HSHS Homehealth and Hospice.
