Gloria Ann Adams, 86, of Dieterich died at 6:42pm Friday, May 13, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Gloria’s life will be held at 11:00 AM – Wednesday, May 18 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois, with Pastor Jason Rensner officiating. Burial will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery in Dieterich, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday at the funeral home.

Gloria Ann, the 6th of eight children born to Grant and Louise (Jacobs) Fritscher, was born December 17, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. With her siblings, Gloria attended the May School in Chicago and when she was 9 the family returned to Dieterich and she graduated as valedictorian from Dieterich High School in 1947, and Effingham High School in 1948. Only 6 days after graduation, and with her mother’s encouragement, Gloria went to work at the 1st National Bank of Dieterich where her work included bookkeeping and being a teller. Over the years, she excelled in her work taking on additional responsibilities regularly and becoming the Vice-President of Operations. Gloria retired from the bank on February 28, 1997, after 49 years of continuous service. Growing up she worked part-time at Fritscher’s Café in Dieterich, Illinois, which was owned by her mother, Louise. She continued helping out while she worked at the bank, and it was there she met her future husband, Clifford “Buck” Adams. Gloria and Buck were married in Dieterich, Illinois, by Rev. Turis E. Davis on December 18, 1949. They lived and worked in Dieterich, Illinois, raising their daughters, Brenda, Laura and Jan Rae. Gloria and Buck were married for 64 years until Buck’s death on October 10, 2014. Over the years Gloria’s hobbies included crocheting, camping with her family and golf. She consistently volunteered her time to help out people in the community and in 1968, she helped organize a Girl Scout Brownie troop in Dieterich. Gloria was the past treasurer for Dieterich School Unit 30 for 50 years, past PTO president and 2nd vice-president for 2 years, secretary for the Women’s Club, a member of Park Hills and Cardinal Golf Club and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dieterich, Illinois.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Laura Glover of Effingham, Illinois, and Jan (Jim) Williams of Lake Monticello, Virginia. She is further survived by 7 grandchildren: Danielle Adams of Newton, Illinois; Rueban (Sarah) Risley and Melvin (Kallia) Risley of Superior, Wisconsin; Jennifer Wilson of Los Angeles, California; James (Tondra) Nagle of Vincennes, Indiana; Tyler (Monica) Williams of Cary, North Carolina; and Colby Glover of Effingham, Illinois; and 8 great-grandchildren: Reanon Adams-Laws of Newton, Illinois; Karma JoAnn Moulton of Effingham, Illinois; Kloe Risley and Reece Risley both of Maple, Wisconsin; and Theren Nagle, Matthew and Jeffrey Donaldson all of Vincennes, Indiana; and nieces, nephews and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Louise (Jacobs) Fritscher, her husband, Clifford “Buck” Adams; daughter, Brenda (Adams) Risley; granddaughter, Stephanie Donsbach; son-in-law, Bill Glover; and her siblings: Gertrude Fritscher, Ted Fritscher, Pat Davis-Nygaard, Tom Fritscher, Peggy Anderson, Elmer “Monty” Fritscher, and Grant “Jr.” Fritscher all formerly of Dieterich, Illinois.
