Xenophon Best Butcher, Sr. (98) of Stewardson

Xenophon Best Butcher Sr., 98, of Stewardson passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Lakeland Rehab & Healthcare Center in Effingham.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 22 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson with Father Chris Brey officiating. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Stewardson American Legion Post #611 or the Effingham County Humane Society.

Xenophon was born January 15, 1918, the son of Thomas and Blanch (Harrington) Butcher. He married Catherine Hilmes on March 2, 1946 and she preceded him in death on April 29, 2015. Xenophon farmed in the Stewardson area most of his life and was also a foreman at Fedders in Effingham. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shumway, American Legion in Stewardson and was an avid gardener who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling, traveling and spending time with this family.
Surviving are daughters Mary Buckner of Stewardson, Linda Allen of Humboldt, IL; sons Xenophon “Pete” Jr. (Jencie) Butcher of Louisville, IL, Thomas Butcher of Farina, IL; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Catherine, two sisters Agnes Blevins and Helen Homann, brother Clarence Butcher.
