Sammy E. “Sam” Rickelman, 75 of Effingham, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
At Sam’s request, no services or visitation will be held. Memorials may be made to Effingham High School Football Moms or the Effingham County Humane Society. Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sam was born on August 3 1940 in Effingham, the son of Lawrence and Geneva (Field) Rickelman. He married Patricia A. Mahon on May 2, 1970 in Effingham and she survives. Sam served in the U. S. National Guard and worked at the Effingham Daily News as a Sportswriter from 1955 until 2006.
Sam is survived by his wife, Patricia of Effingham; daughter, Cindy of Mattoon; granddaughter, MacKenzie of Mattoon; sister, Marilee (Tom) Schutte of Sigel; sister-in-law Rita Mahon of Effingham and special friend Millie Lange.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and son, Chris Hutts.
