Gary Gene Rigdon, 72, of Vandalia, formerly of Brownstown, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown with Wesley Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, rural Brownstown. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Carmel Cemetery or Four Mile Christian Church.

Gary was born on Friday, September 24, 1943 in Vandalia to Clyde and Reatha (Gilmore) Rigdon. He retired from Caterpillar, Decatur and in retirement he worked for Cumberland Trail Growers, St. Elmo. He married Lora Curry. He then married Virginia Williams on Tuesday, August 19, 1980. He was a member of Four Mile Christian Church where he had served as a deacon and currently was an elder. He was a past member of the board of directors of Fayette County Water. He was treasurer of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Association.

He is survived by his wife Virginia of Vandalia; sons, Daron Rigdon and (special friend, Mel Dubiel) of Brownstown and Derek Rigdon and his wife Cheryl of Brownstown; step son, Shawn Ritchey and his wife Billie Jo of Vandalia; step daughters, Stephanie Ireland and her husband Jeff of Shobonier and Fawn Scribner of Vandalia; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
