Janette Marie (Volk) Westendorf, 56, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away at 6:18 AM – Monday, March 14, 2016, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Thursday, March 17 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bishop Creek (Rural Dieterich), Illinois. Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:30 PM – Wednesday at the church, and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Janette, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.

Jan was born on December 11, 1959, in Olney, Illinois; the daughter of Gilbert and Patricia (Kaufmann) Volk. She married Robert (Bob) Westendorf on May 27, 1989, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois. And to this union, were born four children, Christopher (25), Valerie (23), Abigail (21), and Gina (16). Jan graduated from Newton Community High School in 1978, and was the Valedictorian of her class. She was a legal secretary for Orr Law LLC and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Dieterich, Illinois. She was a leader of the Country Cousins 4-H club and enjoyed camping, reading, crocheting, and spending time with her loved ones.

Jan is survived by her husband Bob of 26 years and their four children; parents Gilbert and Patricia Volk of Ingraham, Illinois; brother, Phil (Karla) Volk of Wakefield, Illinois; Sisters, Deb (Floyd) Holkenbrink of Teutopolis, Illinois; Cathy (Jim) Lewis of Bible Grove, Illinois; Sandy (Tom) Webb of Jewett, Illinois; Lisa (Brian) Bohnhoff of Dieterich, Illinois; Becky (Carl) Will of Newton, Illinois; Mary (Vance) Woods of Newton, Illinois; Sherry (Todd) Shamhart of Dieterich, Illinois; Joyce (late husband Scott) Hartrich of Newton, Illinois; Judy (Phil) Zumbahlen of Newton, Illinois; and Toni (Roger) Zumbahlen of Newton, Illinois.

Jan was preceded in death by her grandparents; brothers, Chuck and John Volk; brother-in-law, Scott Hartrich; sister-in-law, Marlene Ochs; nephew, Shane Lewis; and great-niece, Grace Schorman.
