Vera Jeanette Zerrusen, 84, of Effingham, passed away at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to proceeding for the funeral mass.

Memorials may be made in loving memory of Vera to the donor’s choice.

Vera was born on May 7, 1931, in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Kenneth and Vera A. (Todd) Starkey. She married Norbert A. Zerrusen on July 24, 1949, at St. Anthony Church in Effingham, and he preceded her in death on October 14, 1988. Vera was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham, Sacred Heart Sodality, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She worked at local restaurants in her later years for 13 years. Vera enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word search, watching old movies, and especially watching her children and grandchildren’s sporting activities.

Vera is survived by her children, Vera Lynne Lidster of Effingham, Stephen (Kate) Zerrusen of Effingham, Michael H. Zerrusen of Teutopolis, Patrick Zerrusen of Effingham, Timothy (Carolyn) Zerrusen of Toledo,  Rebecca (Dave) Tedrick of Teutopolis, Jeanine Miller of Effingham, Tammy (Jeff) Douthit of Effingham, and Jeffrey Zerrusen of East Peoria; 20grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert; 2 daughters; Mary Jane Zerrusen and Penny Zerrusen; granddaughter, Dawn Lidster; and sisters, Margaret Webb and Mary Jane Mullens.
