Dorothy L. Holkenbrink, 90, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, with a 7 p.m. C.C.W. Rosary. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Dorothy to St. Anthony Schools.

Dorothy was born on September 11, 1925, in Effingham County, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Christine (Nuxoll) Haarmann. She married Henry A. Holkenbrink on February 1, 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 2004. Dorothy was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She and her husband, Henry, traveled all over the Unites States and they wintered in Florida for many years. They were members of the Good Sam’s Camping Club. She loved flowers and would be considered someone with a “Green Thumb.” Dorothy was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Carol (James) Hakman of Teutopolis, Frank (Julia) Holkenbrink of Carpentersville, Ellie (Gene) Niemerg of Dieterich, Jo (Mike) Bierman of Effingham, Christy (LeRoy) Schackmann of Newton, Tess (Alan) Goeckner of Teutopolis, and Henry (Pat) Holkenbrink of Greentown, IN; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; brothers, Louis Harrmann, Joseph Harrmann, and Leo Haarmann; sisters, Sr. Maximina, Celeste Kortte, and Christine  Kortte.
