Mr. "Bud" Mahon (80) of St. Elmo

Bud Mahon, 80, of St. Elmo, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon March 11, 2016 at 4:14 PM at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham where he had been a patient for a short time.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, March 14 at 11:00 AM in the Kull Funeral Home, St. Elmo, Illinois with the Rev. Dan Laack of the First United Methodist Church in St. Elmo officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be conducted from 4:00 pm-8:00pm on Sunday at the Kull Funeral Home, St. Elmo, Illinois. Veterans Burial Rites by American Legion Post #420 of St. Elmo will be at the Stein-Stine Cemetery, rural St. James, Illinois immediately following the funeral service. Memorials to the St. Elmo Sports Boosters Club and/or the donor's choice.

Harold Richard “Bud” Mahon was born into the family of John and Lena Mahon-Ballew. Bud began his long life on April 2, 1935 at the family home Wheatland Township, Fayette County, near St. James, Illinois. He graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1953 where he played football. He then was employed in Loudon oil fields, and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in German from September 29, 1958 until September 15, 1960. His full Honorable Discharge was August 31, 1964. Bud then returned to St. Elmo and was employed with Otis Petroleum. Bud also worked for “Lucky” Luchtefeld at the Blue Mound Tavern and later became the owner-operator for many years until his retirement. His sponsorship of athletics by the Blue Mound Tavern, included Bowling Teams, Softball both fast and slow pitch teams and others. Bud was a season ticket holder for the St. Louis Cardinals and Rams for numerous years, however Cardinal Baseball was a love of his life. His other memberships included the St. Elmo Golf Club, Life Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1447 Legion #101 in Vandalia, the fraternal organization of the Elks Lodge #1016 in Effingham and others. In his retirement he had a special interest in raising Llamas.

He is survived by his: Daughter: Tammy Sue Mahon-Durbin of Arnold, Missouri and her son: Kyle David Durbin...2-Step-Daughters: Penny (husband, David) Koontz of St. Elmo, Illinois and their children: Sarah (husband, Kabe) Wright, Joshua (wife, Cassie) Koontz, Adam (wife, Kayla) Koontz, and Marrie (husband, Gary) Lidy of Effingham, Illinois and their daughter:            Adrienne (husband, Jeremey) Smith...1-Step Son: John (wife, Clare Ann) Looman of Teutopolis, Illinois and their children: Jack (wife, Megham) Looman, Paul (wife, Cheryl) Looman and Jessica (husband, Brent) Budde...1-half-brother: James “Jim” Ballew of Carmi, Illinois...Sister: Mrs. Mary Fetgatter of Carmi, Illinois...Sister-in-law: Norma Jean Mahon of Vandalia, Illinois...and Several Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his: Parents: John Lester Mahon and Lena Esther Calvert-Mahon/Ballew...Brother: John W. “Bill” Mahon...Step Grandson: Brian Looman...and Brother-in-law: Oland Fetgatter.
