Leon L. Woodland, age 90, of Watson, Illinois passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 in Harlingen, Texas.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Reverend Eugene Smith will be officiating. There will be a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Burial will be at Leith Cemetery in Mason. Memorials may go to First Presbyterian Church in Effingham, Effingham County Humane Society, or donor’s choice.

Leon was born on October 10, 1925 in Horine, Missouri, the son of Benjamin and Martha (Latimore) Woodland. He married Kay Smith in 1979. He was in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham, Illinois. He enjoyed golfing, trout fishing in Missouri, country dancing, wintering in Rio Grande Valley, RV traveling, and woodworking. He had several dogs in his lifetime that he loved dearly, especially his beloved Sammy.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Woodland of Watson, Illinois; 3 sons, Steve Woodland (wife Debbie) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Scott Woodland (wife Angela) of Round Rock, Texas, Brian Woodland (wife Laura) of Arlington Heights, Illinois; daughter, Susan Miles (husband Hugh) of DeForest, Wisconsin; brother, Bob Woodland (wife Ruby) of Festus, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Martha Woodland; 7 brothers and 1 sister.
