William Stanley Crum, age 80, of Beecher City, Illinois passed away at 10:38 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 4 at the C & A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo, Illinois with a one-hour viewing prior to service. PeeWee Denton will be officiating. Visitation will on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham, Illinois with Military Funeral Honors. Memorials may be made to Beecher City Meals on Wheels.

Stanley was born on April 30, 1935 to Rawl and Nellie Crum in St. Elmo, Illinois. He married Betty Golightly on April 13, 1974 in St. Elmo, Illinois. He was a member of the VFW #1776 in Altamont, Illinois. He enjoyed whittling, playing the guitar, working in his garden, fishing and mushroom hunting. Stanley served in the Marines from December 1, 1953 to November 30, 1956 and then served in the Army from September 5, 1967 to September 4, 1970. He was in Vietnam for eighteen months.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Betty Crum; two daughters, Anita Doyle (husband Don) of Texas and Mary Crum of St. Elmo, Illinois; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anita and David Reading of Fairland, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; special granddaughter, Amy Crum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rawl and Nellie Crum; two sons, Ernest Daniel Crum, Daniel Duane Conner and one grandson.
