Kathleen Nichols, 88, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:40 AM – Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Kathleen’s life, will be held at 11:00 AM – Wednesday, February 3 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Ron Mulvey officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the Newton Women’s Club.

Kathleen was born on April 1, 1927 in Newton, Illinois the daughter of Martin and Lydia Cordelia (Woodard) Waddell. She married Don Ernest Nichols on November 9, 1946 in Hidalgo, Illinois, in double wedding ceremony with Warren and Dema Hunt from Rockledge, Florida. Don preceded her in death August 10, 2010. Kathleen was a homemaker and loving mother. She was an active member of the Newton Women’s Club, where she had served as President for 10 years, and was the current Historian of the club. In 2014, Kathleen was honored with a certificate of excellence at the district level for her work with the club history. She was always willing assist her community through her involvement over the years in the Newton Women’s Club. Kathleen enjoyed painting and writing especially poetry. She was a member of the Writer’s Club and had some of her poetry published.

Kathleen is survived by: Children – Diana Nichols of Silver Spring, Maryland and David Nichols of Newton, Illinois; Granddaughter – Brenda Hamand of Lincoln, Illinois; 4 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Bill and Jack Waddell and a sister Betty Harrison.
