Roger Earl Pagel, 68, of Effingham, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 30, at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. 4th Street in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Roger was born on March 26, 1947, in Effingham IL, the oldest son of Earl and Lyla V. (Baker) Pagel. He lived in Effingham until 1966 when he moved to Oak Forest, IL with his parents. Roger was drafted in the Army during the Vietnam War. He left April 3, 1968. After basic training, he was sent to Panama Canal, where he spent most of his service time. When his tour of duty was over April 2, 1970, Roger returned to Oak Forest. He worked for Frank Bartolmucci, who had a cleaning service until he moved back to Effingham, April 27, 1974. Roger worked eight years for World Color Printing. He started May 9, 1974. After leaving there, he worked for Edmund Rinehart for a few years.

Roger is survived by his son, Michael R. Pagel of Effingham; granddaughter, Makayla C. Pagel of Louisville; brothers, Robert (Sharon) Pagel and David Pagel, both of New Lenox; sisters, Brenda (Bill) Margwarth of Orland Park and Paula (Terry) Confer of New Lenox; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
