James Finis Taylor, 82 of Mattoon, passed away at 5:40 PM on Sunday, January 24, at Mattoon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mattoon.

Funeral services celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 29 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Greenup, Illinois, with Pastor Roger James officiating. Burial will be in the Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo, Illinois, with full military rites by the Cumberland County Veteran’s Association. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service.  In loving memory of Jim, memorials may be made to Camp New Hope P.O. Box 764 Mattoon, Illinois 61938.

James Finis better known as Jim was born on May 3, 1933, in Mattoon, Illinois the son of Finis James and Mabel Lorena (Stillions) Taylor. He married Joan Stateler on November 6, 1954, in rural Greenup, Illinois and she survives. Jim served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950, until his honorable discharge in 1954. Jim was a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting coins and working puzzles.

Jim is survived by: Wife of 61 years – Joan Taylor of Mattoon, Illinois; 3 Children – Terri (Pat) Crumb of Lake Mattoon, Illinois; Sherri Maxwell of Greenup, Illinois and Stacey Taylor of Mattoon, Illinois; Grandchildren – Tiffany (Robert) Farris of Toledo, Illinois; Renee (Josh) Myers of Casey, Illinois; Jessie Taylor and Josie Taylor both of Greenup, Illinois; Great Grandchildren – Nathaniel Farris and Briley Myers.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, step father Roy Ward and a sister Wanda Taylor.
