Barbara A. Sutter, 83, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at her home in Shumway with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in the Shumway Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shumway Kluthe Center or the Shumway Veterans Museum.

Barb was born September 1, 1932 in Fayette County, the daughter of James and Louraine (Hale) Haslett. She married Henry Edward Sutter on September 1, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 2007. Barb was the co-founder of Sutter Sanitation, serving with the company for over 40 years. She was involved with the Shumway Fire Department, Shumway Kluthe Center’s Seniors and played an active role in various Shumway activities.

Barb is survived by her two sons, Morris and Tracy (Theresa), both of Shumway; four daughters, Mag (Joe) Hardiek of Mason, Donna (Darrell) Durbin of Effingham, Quen “Shorty” (Larry) Hardiek of Watson and Linda (Craig) Moore of Shumway; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Sutter of Shumway; brother, Keith (Margaret) Haslett of St. Elmo; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren also survive.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James E. Sutter; brother, Emmett Haslett; great-grandson, James Thomas Fisher Sutter and son-in-law, Brian Sapp.
