Nellie H. Stewart, 84, of Altamont, died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 15 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Rev. Brooke Davis officiating. Entombment will follow at Arbrocrest Memorial Park Mausoleum, Effingham. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Nellie was born on Tuesday, May 5, 1931 in Jackson Township, rural Effingham, IL. She married Ralph L. Stewart on January 28, 1950 in Effingham, IL and he preceded her in death on November 15, 1978. During their marriage they relocated many times due to his Air Force career. In addition to raising her family she worked as a civilian employee and had top clearance with the United States Air Force. She was a long-time Avon representative and a housekeeper with St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham prior to her retirement. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham.

Surviving are her son, Ralph P. Stewart and his wife Norma of Altamont; daughters, Sharon Plummer of Montrose, Delores Stewart of Altamont and Mary Stewart of Fairfield; 6 grandchildren, Mark S. Gabel, Julie Davis and her husband Doug, Don D. Plummer and his wife Robin, Sarah Gabel, Devon Stewart and Macy Stewart; and 9 great grandchildren. 

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Raymond in infancy, Floyd Smith and Glenn Hubrich.
